Hair Replacement
Hair replacement becomes necessary when the original supply dries up. Or to be more accurate, when your hairstyles all have too much scalp showing in the middle. Then it's time to consider whether to just let it be, or seek out a nice wig, or try some of the modern hair replacement techniques available.
Surgery to replace hair is fairly commonplace these days, and quite successful more often than not. You will need healthy hair growth on the sides and back of the scalp to act as donors for the area where your hair loss has occured, which is usually in the middle.
There is of course always a risk that some or all of the hair grafts won't 'take'. This can lead to a patchy look, which will possibly require further surgery, but this will depend on the opinion of the surgeon in charge. Don't expect a sudden healthy head of hair if you have been thinning on top for some time. Hair replacement surgery is different for each patient, and in fact catered to individual patients; a friend's experience in these matters may not match your own, or vice versa.
When a woman starts to thin on top, she is more likely to be amenable to the possibility of wearing a hair piece, or wig. Of course, transplants can be performed on women just as easily as on men, and with similar results.
If you are concerned about the thinning of your hair, and you are considering consultation sabout hair replacement, you should seek out expert advice, and only act when you are completely satisfied with the procedures involved.
But whatever the condition of your hair, you are likely to need it to be organised in some way. Check out our hairstyles page for more information.
